And in with the new. I have been done with 2011 for a while now – very happy to usher it out last night. While there were lots of happy moments and progress made, the overwhelming feelings were pain and worry.
But today is a new start. In between all the holiday activities, I’ve been working hard on creating my ‘art cave’ last month. I’ve sorted through lots of stuff, painted the walls, picked out light fixtures and am finally setting up the furniture so I can play. This will be my messy room where I can use paint, spray ink and other messy techniques. I’m also setting up a sewing table in the corner so my machine is always out. I’d rather have all my creative work areas in one room, but our house doesn’t allow that right now. Maybe when we do the basement reno we talk about ‘someday’. Until then, I’m happy. My own play room, what more could a mommy want?
My new room will get some heavy use this month since I’ll be playing along with Natalie Kolbach’s Creative Jumpstart. I watched the first video (by the fabulous Dina Wakely) this afternoon and I’m super impressed and will be playing with her ideas later tonight. Thanks, Nat! This is just what I need to get my mojo flowing again after a long break.
I’m also starting a year-long adventure in self-discovery at A Year with Myself. This is a weekly series of prompts to explore through writing or other creative means. Love the slower pace and longer term of this project. I hope to use these prompts for some art journal pages through the year because this is the year I WILL start art journalling.
I have other hopes and goals for this year to be outlined in another post. Some still need to be clarified and that will likely happen after the boys are back in school and I can hear myself think again.
